Stanford Med Center Design Guidelines
WRNS Studio developed design guidelines for all new projects underway at the Stanford University Medical Center, including the Hospital Replacement Project, the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Project, the Foundation for Investigative Medicine Projects, and the Hoover Pavilion Clinics Project. This study includes approximately 65 acres of facilities on the Stanford University campus and is supporting the University’s public entitlements process. Four districts make up the medical center, and our design guidelines provide a basis for understanding the architectural implications of new projects within these distinct areas. While each of the districts has a individual identity, the guidelines express similarities and differences of the new projects as they contribute to a cohesive, overall Medical Center identity. To that end, the Medical Center Design Guidelines seek to provide consistent and equal representation of all new projects for City of Palo Alto review.
The intent of the guidelines is to allow for a variety of architectural expressions in the proposed projects while promoting a cohesive campus environment, with enhanced connections to Stanford University and to the Stanford Shopping Center.
