A recent grad, Yuqi overlays a systematic methodology over architecture and urban landscapes to realize new models for the built environment that are healthy, vibrant, and equitable. Originally from Shanghai, she began her education studying physics and environmental design at Tongji University. The dueling disciplines contributed to a multidisciplinary lens through which she designs. Continuing her education in the US, she joins WRNS after earning her Master’s in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
Previous work experience and coursework have shepherded Yuqi’s understanding of the integrity of the design process and how to treat the city as an agent of resiliency. From a Water Infrastructure studio where she proposed a strategy to improve the livability of residents by sculpting a “low-ground + high-ground” landscape in India, to co-founding an open platform that empowers crowd source intelligence on sustainable issues. Yuqi weaves through many layers of operating systems to purpose feasible solutions that support public space, social justice, and ecological systems. Her other efforts in community engagement and social innovation includes researching consumption modes in China to promote the use of Maker Spaces and took the lead in setting up the school’s Fab Lab, With this experience, She had the honor of being one of the selected speakers at TEDx Youth in Suzhou, 2014.
