Kanako R. Lathrop brings more than ten years of experience designing commercial projects such as restaurants and retail spaces in New York, Hawaii, Japan, the United Kingdom, India and Indonesia. Exposed to the art, business, and impact of architecture at an early age, she possesses an intimate understanding of the profession’s role in supporting an organization’s mission and goals. In a globalized world, Kana believes in architecture’s ability to organize people, materials, and resources to benefit a local community, nourish its culture, and spark its economic growth.
Kana’s design process is decidedly analog, using drawing as a tool to quickly explore design options from early concept sketches to construction details. Supported by technology and a wealth of building industry wisdom at WRNS, Kana believes that determination and attentiveness can create functional spaces that are equally beautiful. Kana is a graduate from the University of Hawai’i with a Doctor of Architecture, receiving an honorable award for her graduation dissertation.
