For Demie, design is equal parts creativity, curiosity and discovery, and in many ways the process is part of the product. Sensitive design responses – tailored to user, context and program – most often emerge from a rigorous process that values the cross-pollination of ideas and fields. Diversity and exploration are central to her practice. She works closely with client teams across project scales and typologies with a collaborative approach characterized by research, intuition and trust. For Demie, enduring and relevant architecture merges broader social considerations with an unwavering commitment to exceed original project objectives.
Prior to joining WRNS Studio, Demie worked with prestigious national firms in Australia. While at Bates Smart in Melbourne she served as a leader within the design team, delivering large-scale, award-winning projects like the National Centre for Synchrotron Science (NCSS) for the Australian Synchrotron. After working on multiple large scale projects, she co-founded JOYCE+MADE and DMDSTUDIO, a private multi-disciplinary practice focused on installation, commercial and residential spaces. She joined WRNS’ New York studio in a senior role during the studio’s launch to engage in the East-coast take on the firm’s investigative, process-driven approach.
Demie earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Melbourne, where she was awarded the faculty’s highest Graduate Prize, Deans Honors and the National Association of Women in Construction Graduate Prize. She was also named runner up in the State of Design Competition for emerging designers for the Milan Information Hub, which was exhibited at the Salone de Mobile in Milan. Demie became a Registered Architect in Australia in 2006 and a Green Star Accredited Professional in 2008 and has participated in academic studio programs for The University of Melbourne. Demie also volunteered on an international community project in Nepal in 2014. With a dual qualification in Construction Management, Demie has designed and delivered architectural, interior architecture and private projects over more than a decade varying in scope, scale and complexity.
