Following a winding path to architecture, Chad joined AmeriCorps at the Habitat for Humanity East Bay upon completion of his political science undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon. He led teams of volunteers in building affordable housing for low-income families before parlaying his construction expertise, into becoming a carpenter, then Project Manager/Estimator for custom residential contractor SR Freeman. Increasingly interested in the other side of the building process, he developed a portfolio to earn his Masters of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
His next move was to New York to expand his project knowledge at a pair of firms, Architecture Outfit and ORE Design and Technology. Demonstrating his construction aptitude, he was the go-to person for drafting custom millwork and lighting. He was drawn to WRNS’s strong design sensibilities and diversity of project, including the studio’s involvement in Public Architecture’s 1% pro-bono program.
